The Sleepover Bug: Head Lice

Five teenage girls get together for a sleepover. They have a blast together: watching movies, telling jokes, dressing up and doing each other's hair. What a fun sleepover, right? There was an uninvited guest there (a predator if you will)! One of the girls (victims) a few weeks later is very itchy on her scalp. She is scratching and scratching her head. She thinks it's dandruff or dry scalp.  When she removed her hands out of her hair one day, she was amazed to see a bug on her hand (HEAD LICE). AHHHH!!! She goes and calls her girlfriends to tell them she has discovered lice on her scalp. Another girl has her parents look in her head and they see nothing (untrained inspection and easy to miss). When she looks at her own hair in the mirror, she discovers a head louse walking on a strand of hair. The other girls decide to just book an appointment at Hair Fairies to get checked for head lice. The five friends all had head lice and booked their appointments together to get help with treating the lice. They all decided this will be a sleepover to remember with the sleepover bug.

The Love Bug

The Love Bug: Can you believe it’s February? It’s the month of love! Friends, families, Moms and Dads are hugging , giving each other flowers, chocolate, etc. Or Head Lice? Did you you know… that the most common way to get Head Lice is through hair to hair contact.  They do not jump or fly. They do not have back legs to jump and no wings to fly. Since a louse cannot survive without a human host you can be sure they are not living in your couches, carpets, or car seats.  Hug, kissing or any kind of head to head contact is the best way to give Head Lice to one another. So..be preventative. Keep your hair up, tight, in a braid or a bun and you’ll be sure to keep the Love Bug away! But, if the unfortunate occurs and you discover that you have head lice, please contact us to learn about our safe and natural head lice removal services.

What you need to know for the month of February at Hair Fairies!

Did you know Hair Fairies have a press release every month? You can find this press release on our bulletin at each one of our head lice salons.  The cool thing about these releases is that we may have special promotions, giveaways, and tidbits that can help with head lice treatments.   If you haven’t read our press release for the month of February, we are offering 25 % off lice removal services for clients who must repeat treatments within six months.  On top of that, we are offering that discount to clients who refer other clients.  Furthermore, if you refer and/or book a school screening with the school administrator, your treatments will be discounted for 25 % off! You can check out our press release online at our very own Hair Fairies website, staging.hairfairies.com  Check it out!

Why we recommend that clients come in for a second treatment?

On the first head lice treatment, we remove everything that is visible. About 70%-80% is visible in the first visit. It is very difficult to get rid of the head lice infestation in one visit due to lack of visibility. The nits when they are first laid are transluscent and are very hard to see.The nits go from light brown to dark brown. The closer the nits are to hatching, they become darker, and more visible. When the nits hatch, the louse is very small, and they are flat on the surface, therefore the lice comb won't grab on to it. The remaining 20%-30% is removed in the second treatment. The second treatment is shorter than the first, since you will have less nits and/or head lice left. Unless you follow the two head lice treatments, we are unable to successfully remove the head lice, and deem you lice free, as well as guarantee our services.

Hair Fairies! Did you know theres an iPhone App for Lice?!

Apps or Application programs for mobile devices have been becoming popular these days.  Here at Hair Fairies Salon-San Francisco, it came to our notice that there are apps for Head Lice!  And yes, not just one app, but two, and not just two, but three of them!  This information stemmed from our clients who had mentioned to us that there are Lice Apps on the iPhone that give out head lice information.    I did some research of my own and load and behold…..there are currently three apps!  The first app is an actual game where it looks like you can plant lice on any photo that you post.  The other two were information programs for Head lice and Bed Bugs.  Check them out if you’re curious and interested!  The only disclaimer is only view them for your pleasure.  If you have any real questions and concerns, please call us!    We have 11 years of experience solely dealing with Head Lice, so if you have any questions on the matter don’t hesitate to call us.  The apps are fun and all, but again, please make sure to contact Hair Fairies and or the Center of Disease and Control when it comes to head lice questions.

Dancing Queen

Dancing Queen Some parents may come into Hair Faries frantic, scared or nervous. Parents are often times overwhelemed with dealing with this Head Lice infestation. They have to tell their freinds and family that they have been in close contact with that they have Head Lice or worse, their school! Hair Fairies is a safe solution and will deal  with your Head Lice problem once and for all! Children are diffrent. They are care free and not cognizant of what is on their Heads. As funny as that may sound, in Chicago, we had this little girl who had a very moderate case of Lice. She is a 2 year old dancing machine. While mom was worried about her sibling having Head Lice, the little girl  started dancing to her favorite pop songs. We named her "Dancing Queen". She brought smiles to other Parents, kids and even Hair Fairies Technicians. She shed light on what could be a positive experience for many other families dealing  with these pesky parisites. Dance your heart out "Dancing Queen"! this is your song!

Why you should come to Hair Fairies oppose to buy the over the counter products?

Hair fairies services are guaranteed and all of our products are organic. We do not use pesticides, so our products are not toxic. We are also pediatrician recommended. Most the clients that come to hair fairies have already used an something which they believed would get rid of the head lice; for instance, nix or rid, and had to come to hair fairies because they did not get rid of the infestation. After a second treatment, and once the whole family have been screened, and everyone who has head lice is treated, you are entitled to 14 days guarantee excluding Saturday in which you can come in as many times as you want. The 14 days guarantee is free of charge. The over the counter products kill about 60-70 percent of the head lice and nothing gets rid of the nits. You either have to comb them out, or manually picked them out one by one. These products are pesticides so they are toxic and they are bad for your scalp and hair. Most people after using the over the counter products complain that their hair is falling out and having a dry scalp, as well as not being able to get rid of the head lice.

We Listen to our Clients

We Listen to our Clients At Hair Fairies we listen to our clients. Some of the best ideas have come from them as they are in the actual situation of dealing with Head Lice. Placing Jackets, hats and Gloves in bags at school. Doing free screenings once a month at our salon. etc…. Great ideas on prevention have come from many of our clients while being treated. So while we are confident in our expertise, we aren’t above listening to the Moms and Dads we treat. New ideas come from all over and one of the most overlooked places for ideas in most businesses seems to be the customer. Not at Hair Fairies Inc, "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Did you know Hair Fairies give out Free Head Lice Screenings?

We are a Clinical Salon solely dedicated to the removal of Head lice treatments and screenings.  But did you know we also offer Free head lice checks in schools and sometimes in our salons?  Please call into any of our location and ask us how and why?!   We have been working with schools in our neighborhoods when we first open up about 11 years ago and each location have been working with schools to help check the students for early detection and prevention.  We often times offer 2 FREE hours of lice screenings to schools that have not used us before and or have experienced an outbreak.  On top of that, there were special promotional days where all of our Hair Fairies location offered Free Head Lice Checks for the day.   The result and outcome through these Free Screenings have been helpful for both parties, from parents who are concerned about the kid’s classmates to extended family members who can get screened for head lice.  Also, Schools who needed further assistance with head lice checks would allow us to check their kids when there was an outbreak.  Overall, the focus is trying to control or handle the matter not just in one family but as a community.  We have gotten moms who would call their schools right away when they brought their kids in and were tested positive.   This has been an effective approach!
