Book A School Screening

Today we went to a school for a free school screening, We ended up finding 11 positive cases of head lice. We're very fortunate to have partnered up with this school to help be proactive about head lice outbreaks and assist them in preventative measures. Due to our diligent screening today, we are planning on booking another screening for the entire school in the near future. Sweet Comments

The best way to remain calm about head lice is to make the most of the situation. Recently we had a dad in our salon giving it his all to show his daughter that they would get through this situation as smoothly as possible. After all, it is never anyones choice or fault to contract head lice. Both his daughters had beautiful long hair and the oldest was feeling a little down on her luck for being the only one in the family to  test positive. Dad went on and on about how he wished he had their beautiful locks, and how time had stolen most of his…hair. His youngest daughter jumped in on the opportunity to make the best of the situation and gave him a compliment that made us all smile: "At least you have a nice shaped head!" A simple comment that made the entire situation seem possible to solve. It was smooth (like a bald head) sailing from there on out.

Birthday Boy

Birthday boy,   A sweet lady came in with her fiancee to get treated for head lice after her fiancee had tried himself to treat her without any luck. It was the fiancee's birthday and he was a bit upset that he was spending this special day on a head lice removal salon, so his girl  asked to take a little break form her combing and came back to surprise him with a cupcake. His face immediately lit up  and had a huge smile on his face! Creating special memories in Hair Fairies CT!

Working Hard

Every couple of years we have a family who comes in to get checked because their daughter had a very severe case when she was about 9 years old. The girl is now 13 and they all came in to get screened because she was itchy. As it turns out she indeed had lice. She came in at 9a.m. for her treatment and she was so severe she was not done until 5:45p.m. Throughout those 7 hours and 45 minutes she had about 3 technicians work on her on rotation while she watched multiple movies, had lunch, and gossiped with other clients. Not once did she ever complain! She was a true trooper and came in, in 3 days for her second treatment which was much, much shorter. We are glad to say she is LICE FREE!

Triplets and triple trouble

Triplets and triple the trouble,   "Sit back, have a cup of coffee and relax we've got this", were the words that I said to a mother of teenage triples that  came to our Hair Fairies lice treatment salon in CT to have her triplets checked for lice. Mom was frantic because this was the first time she had ever dealt with lice, and knew very little information on the subject. At Hair Fairies our motto is Care, Nurture and Educate and that's exactly what we did with this mom, by the time she left, she had a smile on her face felt at ease and had a peace of mind to know that her lice problem was finally solved after trying to get rid of it on her own.

Worth it in the end

Getting rid of head lice is a long and tedious process, especially when it's your first time dealing with the pesky bugs! Our super sweet client 'T' spent weeks combing through both of her daughters hair. She never came in but always called to ask any question that popped into her mind. How long do head lice live off the scalp? How often do I have to comb their hair? Are nits brown or white? She bought all of our products and watched our tutorial videos religiously. Finally, towards the end of the long lice charade she decided to come in and have the 'pros' take a look. T was clean and her two daughters were lice free! She did say how initially it felt almost impossible (at one point she was tempted to give everyone a pixie cut) but you have to take it one day at time…sometimes for many many days. Good job, T! 

Good Karma

Do you ever have one of those days where you wonder "why is this happening to ME?" It's safe to say that we've all been in that very same spot. This week  we had a client who's car broke down, her credit card had been stolen AND her dog gave birth to 4 puppies that she had no idea what to do with. Talk about a crazy week! The cherry on top was of course head lice!! Since she couldn't move while being treated she took the 3 hours to sort out all of her problems. She vented to us about her week and she worked through some of her frustrations. At the end of her treatment she said she had forgotten she had head lice since she was so busy. It must have been fate for her to be forced to sit down for such a long period of time since she couldn't find another time that week. We're happy that she's back on a positive track and head lice free! 

Sing Along

Sing along,   The movie Frozen happens to be a favorite among the little princesses that visit our Hair Fairies location in CT. The proof is in the sing along that we had here during the week when a group of three little girls started singing the  "LET IT GO" song and boy did they know every single word of the song, amazing!! It was so much fun that the moms started talking to each other and arranging play dates and talking about Disney that  one of the moms said "What an odd place to make new friends, we weren't expecting to be this much fun considering the head lice and what not"

Another Lice Myth

Some people believe that if you have dreadlocks you cannot get head lice. This is in fact a myth. You can get head lice if you have dreadlocks. unforunately if you do get head lice  and you have dreads, you must cut all the dreadlocks off. There is no way to treat head lice with dreadlocks in your hair. 

Fancy Measures

Did you know head lice can live up to 48 hours off of your scalp? The M family thought that head lice could live in your environment for weeks on end! After finding head lice on their little ones they took the drastic measure of temporarily staying in a hotel while they fixed the problem. After a week they decided to see out the help from the Hair Fairies. Only little L was considered severe and we told mom that she was clear but she needed to come back for a second treatment in 3-4 days. We also told her that it was ok to go back home and mom stopped me before I could finish the sentence: "I am not going to risk it, we're staying in the hotel until it is ALL gone." During L's last treatment, after being confirmed head lice free she exclaimed "Oh good, we can go home now, I was starting to feel a little too fancy." The M family went straight to their 'humble' home that night and little L felt just fancy enough to sleep in her own bed that night.
