When in Doubt, Laugh More about Head Lice Laughter has recently been identified as a sociological response. Perhaps it was used as a form of communication in the past, as the mere sound of laughter will cause laughter as a response. And when another day seems gray at Hair Fairies Chicago, and the child in my work chair can’t even muster a smile, I take it as an opportunity to start laughing more. At the movie the child is watching, at my coworkers jabs at celebrities, even at my own silly jokes. Soon after the child’s face cracks a little and the smiles start coming. Laughter follows soon after. The kid realizes that they are allowed to laugh and can finally relax and enjoy their time here a little more. And just when I question if I’m laughing too much I remember some of the health benefits of it and can rest easy. Laughter reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, raises energy levels, and helps you bond with others. It is said that 100 laughs are equal to 10 minutes on a rowing machine at the gym or 15 on a stationary bike. So get in your workout and laugh. As we are at one of our many free head lice school screenings, a little boy asks a technician: "Are head lice smart?" Technician: "Why do you ask?" Boy:"Because if they are feeding from our blood in our brain that should make them smart. Right?" As the technician ponders on the response the boys brother replies: "It depends on who's brain they're feeding off!" We continued with our free head lice screenings with a smile and pondered on what Hair Fairies would reply to that question. So now I ask… "Are Head Lice Smart?"

Warming welcomes for Christmas at Hair Fairies San Francisco!

  I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with family and loved ones.  It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here and nothing beats that here at Hair Fairies San Francisco, since we are also bringing that spirit to our salon!  We treat head lice and yes! We all know that, but have you ever checked or notice our d�cor?!!! I must say we have a very lovely environment for all the holiday seasons.  We like to make this experience for you as comfortable as possible.  On top of the entertainment for the kids, magazines and hot tea for parents and clients, we would like to take care of the ambience!!! The purpose of lice

A client comes to Hair Fairies with her daughter because they both had head lice. As her daughter is getting her head treated, the mom  goes and sees everything that is being removed out of her daughter's head. She is absolutely fascinated by the lice. She asked the whole history of lice, where did they come from, why do they only live in the head, etc. Then she asks us a very interesting question, "why do head lice exist, everything has a purpose, so what is the purpose of lice?" We all are quiet and start to think. One of the Hair Fairies says they exist to give me a job. The client says you're absolutely right. They had a blast at Hair Fairies. We're glad we made their lice experience so enjoyable.

Family Environment at Hair Fairies Chicago             In order to maintain a relaxed, home environment it goes beyond a nice clean setting and comfortable interior design. It’s the team that works there. Not many jobs can claim to pull off a true family atmosphere, but here in Chicago, we do because our coworkers become a family. We don’t feign interest – and if we did, we wouldn’t work here. We take genuine interest here. And customers sense that, even if they aren’t conscious of it. We go to each other’s comedy shows, screen their short films, and support their interest outside of work. It’s the kind of bond that most jobs can’t offer. It must relax customers and give them that “home” feeling. “We welcome your family to join our family today”, is a line that could very well be said to new customers.

The Magician Technician in Hair Fairies Chicago             The kid who wouldn’t be combed. They’re out there. Like a magician we must learn the art of shifting focus. Changing attentions. I’ve seen this happen in ways that astound. A crying screaming kid morphs into a laughing one. A worried mom, furrowed brow, tense mouth, sifts into a smiling one. I feel that the best technicians are also magicians. They can turn a metal comb into a funny cartoon monster. They change parasite removal into a movie marathon. They change a potentially traumatic situation into one that leaves kids asking, “Mom, can I have my birthday party here?”

When Kids Attack / Hair Fairies Chicago I recently heard that a kid became a towel flinging barbarian at Hair Fairies Chicago. What do you do when a kid, one of which you have to scrape a metal comb across their head, becomes hostile? My solution is to make it a joke. A towel flinging at your face, a kid calling you names. It’s all something you laugh at. Show the child that they aren’t getting the response the expected and that you have risen above their threshold of effective badgering. They can’t hurt you, they can’t win. They may end up more open to you and your suggestions after that. Referring their attack on you to something a popular movie or cartoon character does may shift their focus to watching a movie or laughter. “Whoa, you fling that towel like Harry Potter flings a wand!” might distract them from the violence at hand and get them thinking about watching Harry Potter. Challenge them to a towel duel if needs be, but don’t let it get out of hand. Instead make the towel attack a positive enterprise. It can be harnessed to get the kid on your side.

Did you know that head lice are an a-sexual parasite? which means that they don’t need a partner to reproduce so if you have a female bug it just starts laying 4-5 eggs a day and about 150 eggs in it’s life time.

Hair Fairies San Francisco is THANKFUL!

Here at Hair Fairies-San Francisco, we are thankful for the many blessings that come with treating head lice.  We know head lice- NO ONE WANTS IT and that it’s a NUISANCE.  It can be a challenge without the right education and tool.  This is the reason why we are here to educate and help out with the nurturing of the minds that head lice can be managed and treated within days and not weeks.  We are also thankful to hear and see that the families who we help REALLY REALLY love their children!!!  Ask us why and how this happens when we love our children so much that we as parents and as a family dynamic can get head lice.  The saying “being close-nit” in a family is what we seldom say to help explain and make it less challenging.
